Présentation

More than any other person, Jane Birkin has been able to carry and personalise the brilliant and tortured lyrics of Gainsbourg, with grace and charm. And here she is, more than 25 years after the death of the artist, as she subjugates us once again by showcasing another facet of a few of the finely-cut jewels that he created. Classically trained, Gainsbourg often borrowed form an extensive repertoire: In this way, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Dvorak…stamp their seal of many of his songs. So, without a doubt he would have loved these subtle and original arrangements and these orchestrations where grand music covers twenty tracks to transform what he called his ‘minor art’ into ‘major art’! During the concert, it feels like you are going back in time to listen to the soft voice of Jane Birkin, who cradles the iconic lyrics of a long-gone pygmalion with childish gentleness, but you also realise with smooth melancholy, that the tracks of the poet-singer are now permanently part of the musical heritage.
