The twins, Tonino and Zanetto were separated at birth and grew up in very different worlds: the first in Venice, the other in the mountains. 20 years later, chance takes them both to Verona, to meet their brides. Neither knows that their brother is in town... And this is the catalyst for a whirlwind of mishaps and misunderstandings and ridiculous situations that will spice up the action with a hint of madness.
While we find all the conventions of the Commedia dell'Arte, this play of Goldoni, the undisputed master of the 18th century Italian comedy, embraces a vast range of tones and emotions: funny, serious and dark, over a plot which takes us from laughter to melancholy. We must point out the excellent performance of the actors, especially Maxime d’Abotville who moves from one character to another with troubling ease, and the elegant effectiveness of the theatrical design which brings all the charm of Verona to the stage. A game of appearances more than of mirrors, this adaptation with a very modern feel, is all the more exciting as it relentlessly unravels the threads of its plot right up to an unexpected epilogue.
