Albena GADJANOVA appointed as Tourism and Communications Director for the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in Cannes

SEMEC, the Société d’Economie Mixte pour les Evénements Cannois (Public-private company for events in the Cannes region), is pleased to announce that Albena Gadjanova has come on board as the Tourism and Communications Director for Cannes. A new member of SEMEC’s Board of Directors, Albena Gadjanova, who has actually been in the position since 1 August 2016, is now directly subordinate to Didier Vescovi, the Managing Director.

We would like to welcome Albena Gadjanova. This appointment is a reflection of our desire to strengthen Cannes’ position as a contending tourist destination in an ever more competitive setting. Entrusted with an active role in drawing up and implementing the tourism strategy for the city of Cannes (Business and Leisure), Albena Gadjanova’s main assignment is to strengthen the region’s drawing power, a major economic challenge for the cinema cityspecified Claire-Anne Reix, Chair of the SEMEC. In this time of dynamic growth, she will broaden the destination’s tourist offer and increase its international influence. Her expertise in terms of e-tourism is an undeniable asset for Cannes and for the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès”, added Didier Vescovi, Managing Director of SEMEC. A new challenge, helped by winning communications and led by Albena Gadjanova, who supervises and coordinates a team of 40 people: Business and Leisure Tourism, Tourist and Ticket Offices, Marketing and Communication. She will also encourage discussions with local tourism professionals, from both the public and private sectors, in order to develop an ambitious Commercial, Marketing and Communication Action Plan at the end of the Assises du Tourisme (Tourism Conference), which is currently underway. The PAC will define the future directions for the actions on both a national and international level.

An international career

Albena Gadjanova began her professional life as a journalist. In 1995, she joined a communications consultancy as the Director of Customer Relations. In 2000, she joined Amadeus France as the Operational Marketing and Communications Manager. In 2008, she held the position of Marketing and Communications Director at Carlson Wagonlit Travel France. She then joined the OECD, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, as a public affairs consultant. She thus contributed to the change in branding and to the organisation of the 50th Anniversary Forum. In 2013, Albena Gadjanova was the co-creator of, a prize-winning start-up in the Hauts de Seine Initiative that was nominated for the Echo Touristique Innovation Trophy in 2014. Albena Gadjanova has earned a Master’s degree in Philosophy, a post-graduate degree in IT and Communications, a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Marketing and Commercial Development from HEC. Of Bulgarian origin, she is multilingual (Bulgarian, Russian, English, French and Spanish). She is the mother of two girls.
Albena Gadjanova will be attending MAP Pro, the trade fair for group travel professionals, on 20 and 21 September 2016,

She will also coordinate and play a role at the IFTM Top Résa on 22 September – the International French Travel Market at the Conference entitled “France, global tourism leader?”

The winning tenderer for a public service delegation contract that is renewable in 2021, SEMEC’s main assignments are: promoting the city (leisure and business tourism), managing the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès and the Tourist Office, and coordinating the city’s cultural events.
