In an intimate dialogue with a major work of the musical repertoire, of which he knows "the smallest corner", Michel Kelemenis pays a choral tribute to dance and to dancers.

The discovery of Johann Sebastian Bach's immense Magnificat was a key stage in the young Michel Kelemenis' culture. The discovery of Johann Sebastian Bach's immense Magnificat was a key stage in the young Michel Kelemenis' culture. During the dreariness of confinement, when the only happy moments for him were those spent in the company of dancers, the memory of this 'breath of intense joy' came back to him. The desire was born to superimpose these two moments of happiness by choreographing the German composer's score for nine performers. MAGNIFICENT is an ode to youth and an invitation to life. It is also a call to open wide the windows to another tomorrow. To the baroque audacity of a soundtrack enriched by the electro compositions of Angelos Liaros Copola, a figure of the Berlin scene, respond the attitudes and aesthetic transformations of a generation determined to free itself from all codes, be they gender, identity or social. Alternating between solos and ensembles, the dancers become the artisans of an exalting collective mosaic. Their gestures, like the notes, have the grace of blossoming, but also that of invention and reinvention of the self. They open up the space, then immediately fade away into an ephemeral eternity.
Michel Kelemenis
A dancer, notably at the CCN of Montpellier with Dominique Bagouet, he founded his company Kelemenis&cie in 1987 and to date has created some sixty choreographies, between abstraction and figuration, often linked to current themes. Based in Marseille, Michel Kelemenis has directed the KLAP Maison pour la danse since 2011. This creative space, which he initiated, works to support authors and companies, to share artistic education, and to promote cooperation and choreographic culture.
