For John Rimmer, Managing Director of the Tax Free World Association (TFWA), there’s no doubt: le Palais des Festivals et des Congrès has taken the right direction by becoming a company with a mission, and by promoting values that encompass sustainable development. But that’s not all…

Value alignment

“I congratulate le Palais des festivals et des congrès de la ville de Cannes on taking this new direction. It’s perfectly aligned with the values of Tax Free World Association (TWFA). In today’s world, our customers are increasingly looking for solutions, for brands that speak to them and are aligned with their values.

It’s important to work with our partners, such as le Palais des Festivals, on sustainable development. This can be many things, such as environmental protection, but not only. It’s also about sustainable values and relationships.”

Le Palais, takes care of everyone

Our common goal is to reinvent ourselves. Which we’ve been doing for years (…). There’s a certain pressure on event organizers to justify the commercial events that are organized. I think that by bringing people from all over the world together in one place, like here in Cannes, people from the United States, Latin America, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia can exchange for a week.

This is one of the main advantages of the event we organize. Cannes likes to think of itself as an international village, and I think it is. It’s a unique city that allows people from all over the world to get together, in a quality setting.

Cannes, international village

Success goes through le Palais

“It’s one of my great pleasures when I see participants at the Cannes show, six months later at another show, say that they see Cannes as a epicenter in the development of their business. Enabling brands, entrepreneurs to meet the world and showcase their success, that’s a crucial part of what we do here.”

Le Palais, revealing talent

“TFWA has been present at Cannes for some time. Our president, Erik Juul-Mortensen, was behind the event, back in the 80s. So we have a strong relationship.

And I think my challenge for le Palais des Festivals would be to say, “ok how can you make sure we’re still with you in 2030, 2040, 2050. If we’re still here, what are you going to do? How are you going to adapt le Palais, your business model, the spaces you have? How will the city of Cannes adapt? How are you going to maintain the same level of excellence to ensure that associations like mine will always be with you?”

I think that’s the challenge facing le Palais, and it’s capable of rising to the challenge.”
