Building on its success in 2021, Cannes was once again named Europe’s Leading Festival and Event Destination at the World Travel Awards 2022, generally considered to be the Oscars of Tourism. Cannes took first place ahead of Europe's major capitals and cities such as London, Barcelona, Budapest and Dublin. This victory acknowledges the expertise of an entire event management eco-system in Cannes.

“Cannes has once again been named Europe’s Leading Festival and Event Destination at the World Travel Awards, the international benchmark for tourism. This award confirms that Cannes is a European leader and a true driving force for business tourism on the Côte d'Azur in terms of event management. It acknowledges Cannes’ expertise and art of living which we cultivate in order to offer our visitors and clients an unforgettable experience. Once again, the World Travel Awards rewards the investment and mobilisation of all the socio-economic sector in Cannes together with the Town Council and SEMEC, who have made our town the perfect destination for festivals and events, by constant striving for excellence.”
David Lisnard, Mayor of Cannes

An exceptional 2022 in Cannes

60 business events are on the calendar of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès over 2022, a record! In September alone, 13 B2B events were held, compared with 7 in 2019 over the same period.

Le Palais des Festivals' remarkable achievement includes its programme of 80 cultural events such as a world premiere with (LA)HORDE and the National Ballet of Marseille in July, Le Bal des Fous, Les Plages Electro and the Festival of Pyrotechnic Art, etc.
In total, these 140 events held at the Palais represent 310 operational days. A truly ‘coactive’ achievement.
All the MICE events on the 2022 calendar were very successful in terms of visitors, these included:

  • The 75th Cannes Film Festival attended by the world's biggest stars: Tom Cruise, Julia Robert, Kristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway, Isabelle Huppert and Austin Butler…
  • The MIPIM (International Market for Real Estate Businesses), which drew more than 20,000 participants from over 80 countries
  • Cannes Lions, with nearly 15,000 participants
  • The Yachting Cannes Festival attracted more than 54,000 visitors

The TFWA World Exhibition & Conference, which will be held from 3 to 6 October, also looks very promising.

“Given its unique, magical location right in centre of the town, on the seafront and with easy pedestrian access, event organisers choose the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès for their events. Le Palais is the perfect size to reassure our clients and meet all their needs. Thanks to all the strengths of Cannes as a destination and its flagship event centre, business is better than ever. This new reward at the World Travel Awards is the fruit of the all work carried out over many years by the teams of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. Thus, this award highlights the achievement of the Palais' raison d'être ‘to welcome the world sustainably.”
Jean-Michel Arnaud, Président of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes
