Parue le
Midem, the cult meeting of the music industry, is being reborn and becomes MIDƐM+: an augmented, experimental and collaborative festival that places music at the heart of the challenges of tomorrow. The first manifestation of the new Midem will take place between 19 and 21 January 2023 at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes. To mark the return of this famous event, which ended in 2019, Cannes Town Hall is relying on an exceptional patron, in tune with the ambitions of MIDƐM+: Jean-Michel Jarre, pioneer of electronic music in France and a global star. For this occasion, he is offering us three live concerts
from his new album OXYMORE, in multi-channel 360 (*) sound.
Buoyed by their experience in organising professional and general public events, Cannes Town Hall and its Palais des Festivals et des Congrès is relaunching the Midem to support the music industry and boost the town’s economic dynamism and its leading position in the creative and cultural industries.
An authentic place for innovation, meetings and gatherings, for every community in the music industry, MIDƐM+ will be punctuated by concerts, showcases, talks, masterclasses, collaborative intelligence workshops, and networking sessions around a professional market.
With regard to his remarkable, international artistic career, and his pioneering role in terms of technological developments in the music world, Cannes Town Hall is overjoyed to have Jean-Michel Jarre, the iconic electronic music producer, as the patron for MIDƐM+23.
“Through the strength of his creations and his ongoing search for innovation, Jean-Michel Jarre has been revolutionizing the music industry field for several decades. In tune with our strong desire to see Midem reborn and placed at the heart of technological developments, especially through the use of virtual and augmented reality, he has honoured us by becoming the patron and getting involved. The presence of Jean-Michel Jarre enriches the programme with quality and immersive auditory experiences and allows the event to regain its key position among music professionals.”
David Lisnard, Mayor of Cannes
“Thank you to David Lisnard, Mayor of Cannes, for conceiving MIDƐM+ and thus returning music to a place of honour by recreating this prestigious event in a 21st century version. I’m happy to be the patron of this new edition 3.0, focussed on the metaverse and new methods of sound production, and also to present OXYMORE as an overture, during three exclusive live concerts in immersive and multi-channel sound.”
Jean-Michel Jarre, artist and composer

Today, he is recognized as one of the greatest ambassadors of the metaverse in France and abroad. Oxyville, a virtual town dedicated to live concerts
To accompany the release of his album OXYMORE, Jean-Michel Jarre in fact launched Oxyville, a virtual world that allows him to interpret his works on a digital stage: the metaverse. This immersive project was developed by the French Startup, VRROOM. The latter is also a member of the Musee+ community at MIDƐM+, the first business club and think tank in the music industry.
“Oxyville is a virtual musical town where I go to produce from time to time. In the future, I want to invite other artists to take part in this, to organize masterclasses and other events. I would like it to become a breeding ground for new musical experiences”, stated Jean-Michel Jarre, who is ceaselessly pushing back the limits of VR and the metaverse.
OXYMORE takes its inspiration from the French “musique concrète” movement, a musical composition genre that uses recorded sound as raw material. It is the first immersive music project of this scale. This album was designed and composed in multi-channel and binaural sound, and mixed in 360 audio in the Radio France Innovation studio.
