A work that touches our hearts. We come away transformed, overwhelmed by the emotional intensity of the performance, yet unable to escape the inner question: what would we have done in their place?
In 1932 in the United States, Max and Martin, one Jewish American with German origin, the other German, are art dealers who have formed a close friendship. When Martin returns to Europe, they start a letter-writing relationship that will be marked by the rise of Nazism and the dark upheavals of a world preparing to march towards war. The accuracy of the performance and the sobriety of the staging illuminate the dramatic intensity of the text and the deeply moving humanity of its message.
