Présentation

Midem will return to Cannes from 19 to 21 January 2023.

Last May, the Cannes Town Hall took over the Midem brand (International Market for Recording and Music Publishing).

While this mythical event for music professionals has not existed since 2019, David Lisnard's objective is to revive it in order to strengthen the city's economic dynamism and its leading position in the creative and cultural industries by including the event in the "Cannes On Air" programme.

To make the new Midem the world's leading music industry event, the municipality and the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes have selected a multidisciplinary team with complementary talents. They include Hopscotch, an international global communications group, All Over/Panda Events, an organiser of major cultural events and music festivals, and Pianity, the first French platform dedicated to the purchase, sale and exchange of music Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT).

The first edition of the new Midem will be held from 19 to 21 January 2023.

The rebirth of an international event in Cannes
Organised since 1967 in Cannes, Midem is an event that aims to bring together professionals from the international music community (independent and major labels, publishers, distributors, services, artists, managers, institutions, professional bodies, but also entrepreneurs and brands) in order to expand their network,
inspire them and develop their know-how, influence and international activities.

In order to maintain this event with a major development potential, the Cannes City Council acquired, in May 2022, the full ownership of the Midem brand from RX France, the historical organiser.

Last September, the Cannes City Council conceded to the Société d'Economie Mixte pour les Evènements Cannois (SEMEC), operator of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes, the right to use the brand Midem in order to continue the organization of this event.

To accompany the rebirth of this professional and general public event, the municipality and the Palais des Festivals and Congresses have selected, after competition, the association of three complementary talents:
- the international communication group Hopscotch. In France, it has notably created and organised international film festivals (Deauville, Gérardmer, Reims), Solutions Cop21 and the new Mondial de l'auto;
- the event production agency All Over/Panda Events. It organises music festivals with great popular success, including the "Plages Electroniques" in Cannes and the "Dunes Electroniques" in Tunisia;
- Pianity, the first French platform dedicated to the purchase, sale and exchange of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT). It allows artists to transform their tracks into limited editions and sell them directly to their fans.

The confirmed experience and proven skills of this team will enable it to meet the ambitions and objectives set for this new Midem over the next three years:
- to represent all music professionals, with a greater emphasis on the live sector alongside the recorded music sector, the historical pillar of Midem;
- to put the artists back at the heart of the event with more concerts organised inside and outside the Palais;
- to promote artistic and technological innovation by favouring demonstrations and workshops;
- to be a place of reflection and anticipation on the future evolution of the market;
- to give the floor to rare and inspiring speakers, who may come from other worlds than music;
- to animate a Midem community all year round and not only during the event;
- to promote the festive dimension of the event to improve the experience of accredited professionals and to involve the general public;
- be exemplary in terms of sustainable development.

In 2023, the first edition of the event will be a prefiguration event before it is ramped up in 2024. The programme of the new Midem will be unveiled shortly.
